Counseling
is beneficial when you wish to receive on-going support, guidance and
processing of various experiences. My approach is eclectic and
intuitive. I listen deeply, often between the lines, and reflect what I
hear. I ask deep questions and encourage you to allow yourself to
discover the answers within.
Depending
on what you bring to a session, my sense of how to approach that issue,
and your own input, I utilize a number of methods to help you achieve
your counseling goals.
In addition to powerful listening and reflection, I employ a variety of
experiential methods to get to the root of unwanted behaviors and
beliefs. I believe that talking can only help us intellectually
understand our problems; it is limited in its ability to actually effect
deep and lasting change. Talk therapy is like going out on a boat to
fish without a fishing rod. You may be able to see the fish swimming
below the surface; you may even be able to describe the fish in great
detail. But you cannot catch the fish because you have not penetrated
the world in which they live. Just so, talk therapy employs mainly the analytical aspect of the mind, also known as the
conscious mind. However, most unwanted behaviors and beliefs originated
in the deeper part of the mind, also known as the
subconscious. These were implanted either during our formative years or
as a result of a trauma. And they can only be accessed by one of two
ways: working directly with the nervous system with somatic or
body-based therapies, or diving into the waters of the subconscious mind
via trance, imagination, symbolism and guided visualization.
If you are an individual who has experienced talk therapy with limited
result, please call me. Many of my clients report a great deal of
frustration with talk therapy, but did not know that there are effective
modalities available that yield dramatic results.
I usually combine the modalities listed below in a creative, fluid way,
to offer optimum results from your therapeutic work. Methodologies
include:
- Gestalt Therapy
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
- EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
- Hypnotherapy (including Medical)
- Creative Modalities
- Cognitive Behavioral
- Life Coaching
Gestalt Therapy
This wonderful modality helps to
distinguish various "parts" of the personality, including introjected
authority figures, fearful child parts, etc. In order to release
limiting beliefs and traumas, we must understand the nature of these
parts and create a means for the parts to feel safe. Once awareness has
been established, you are free to make new, more free choices. Certified
Gestalt therapist by the Gestalt Institute of Santa Fe.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
A remarkable method used primarily to release trauma by accessing
left-right brain patterning. Trained by the EMDR Institute; Level II.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
If you have ever experienced the
positive effects of acupressure or acupuncture, you have an idea about
how EFT works. By lightly tapping on certain points in the body while
considering an issue, EFT literally taps into the body's nervous system
where traumatic material is stored. The effect is direct access to
stored material and gentle release. I teach EFT to all of my clients who
wants to learn it, as it is a wonderful tool to use at home whenever
unwanted beliefs, emotions or behaviors try to have their way with you.
It's a self-management tool that promotes self-mastery. EFT was
developed by Gary Craig. For more information on EFT, log onto

master level trainer.
Hypnotherapy, including Medical
Hypnotherapy can be used in a
variety of ways to heal old emotional wounds, understand a subconscious
motive or belief, or re-program the mind and nervous system for health
and healing. Medical Hypnotherapy is an exciting field which is gaining
momentum in the medical community. Medical hypnotherapy is often being
used to prepare patients for surgery, release fears of procedures,
address emotional components of illness, and even re-program the
autonomic nervous system so that it can release physical illness. Some
research suggests that at least 65% of all physical illness is related
in some way to the mental, emotional or spiritual aspect of the
individual. Medical hypnotherapy is used as an adjust to medical
intervention to help the client release unwanted maladaptations of the
body, and it is remarkably effective. Training: Certification in
Hypnotherapy by the Hypnotherapy Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Medical Hypnotherapy certification by the Hypnotherapy Institute of
Alabama.
Creative Modalities
The deeper mind is easy to access
through creative work, since the imagination resides in the
subconscious aspect of the mind. At times, powerful work can be done
using art, puppets, psychodrama, writing and dream interpretation.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
At times, it is helpful to
work on the level of managing thoughts and behaviors. This type of work
is especially useful while in the midst of plunging the depths of the
origins of those thoughts and behaviors or in the case of an individual
who is not ready or able to work on the level of the subconscious mind.
Managing thoughts and behaviors help the client to get through difficult
moments. Over time, cognitive behavioral work helps the client to
recognize that there is actually a choice: allow unwanted thoughts and
behaviors to manage us or take charge of them. Most sessions involve
some aspect of cognitive behavioral work, usually in the form of "homework" that is mutually agreed upon toward the end
of the session, so that work that is accomplished during the session
can continue in the client's daily life.
Life Coaching
After releasing unwanted limitations,
some clients wish to continue on their journey to being the best, most
fulfilled person they can be. Life Coaching helps you achieve balance,
discover your life purpose, and make you dreams into a reality.
