What To Expect
It is important to understand how and why therapy will take place. Here is what you might want to know:
All therapy sessions take place online, providing you with the ease of meeting in a comfortable, familiar environment at home. Online sessions are just as effective, if not more so, than in-person meetings.
The first session is a planning session. I will spend time getting to know you and your goals. Together we will strategize a plan that takes into account your priorities, needs and preferences.
Although I have tools that take us to the deeper mind rather quickly, I am respectful of the fact that working with a new therapist can be challenging. Therefore, methodologies that take you deep may be postponed until a rapport is built between us. For instance, the first few sessions may be more cognitive-behavioral based, working on thoughts and behaviors before taking on a deeper method like Hypnotherapy or EMDR.
It can be helpful to think about what you want to work on before each session. A pre-meditated plan can be helpful, but your input regarding what is really "up" for you at the time of the session will help us co-create the most helpful therapeutic experience for you.
A free consultation is recommended before starting counseling so that you are sure that you are comfortable with your therapist. I offer a 15 minute consultation for first-time clients so that my skills and counseling style are appropriate for your needs and preferences. I will answer any questions you might have as well.
